“Real 100% Haunted”

I’ll admit it, I like looking at Facebook Marketplace. It’s often like a virtual yard sale. Every once in awhile, I find some really great rare or vintage item at a great price. Most of the time it’s folks trying to get premium prices for subpar stuff (“Don’t low ball me,I know what I got!”) Sometimes though…something comes up that is so mind boggling, that I have to stop in my tracks and wipe my eyes to see if I am truly seeing what I think I’m seeing.

This was one of those times:

I know what your saying “Why is your wallet not in your hand already?!?”

There is a lot to unpack here. The Menehue were a “little people” legend in Hawaiian mythology In not unlike the Nunnehi of Cherokee lore .

“They were credited with the building of many temples, roads, and other structures. Trades among them were well-systematized, every Menehune being restricted to his own particular craft in which he was a master. It was believed that they would work one night on a construction and if unable to complete the work, it was left undone.”

William Hyde Rice, Hawaiian Legends -1923

He seems like a jovial fellow from the pictures in the listing. I wonder why anyone would think it’s haunted, let alone have a “rabbi pray over it and put it in a dybuk box”. If you have read the blog before, you’ll know we talked all about the Dybuk box and it’s problematic history in the Paranormal community. I’m not sure what documented history this item has in it’s “vision voices haunting welth and other mischief” but it certainly sounds like a character that anyone would need to charge a very high price just to consider letting it leave their stewardship. I mean the wise Mr. Wing said in 1984’s “Gremlins“: “With Mogwai, comes much responsibility. I cannot sell him at any price.”

In 2026 speak? $650 we take Venmo and Cashapp. Now I’m sure the seller is a fine person and this is all a bit of fun, but the point is always this. caveat emptor. “Buyer beware”. A quick Ebay search found another menehune for the low low price of $18 + shipping. (or best offer!!)

So are we really buying the story? A Schrödinger’s cat that may or may not be a hoax? the Dybuk box at a certain Las Vegas museum is now considered priceless where once it was once a yard sale find. Anything can be sold as a haunted object nowadays, All it needs is a creepy look and half the work is done. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an auction to win!
